First series down and I have to say as a sequel to The Eighth Doctor Adventures it does an excellent job at continuing the same themes and go deeper than before.

These four episodes transforms the Doctor into another level of character. I think this is the first time I’ve experienced a Doctor who’s not only acknowledged their personal and character flaws but one that also changes and evolves with that knowledge. No glowy regeneration, just a deep understanding of the character along with knowing that death shouldn’t always be the Doctor’s reason for changing things up.

If I had to describe how this story felt it would be if the showrunners had changed but acknowledged the predecessors wishes, retained what they did whilst crafting a story of their own around what we know as the core fundamentals of this series.

This is just a side note but I appreciate the change in length for these episodes. 70-80 minutes got a little much per episode even if their quality was above anything the TV show is doing at the moment. Reverting to an hour per episode makes it an easier binge, especially after the lesser in quality UNIT series I went through.

9/10
