I include the promotional poster because the cover art looks ridiculous.

Dark Eyes 3 continues the narrative from the previous but puts an emphasis on the Doctor vs Master conflict which is nice to see that as the focus.

My disappointment comes from some of the smaller elements attempting to tie events from this show so far into the previous Eighth Doctor Adventures. A direct continuation was the idea with the first series but it was also designed to transition the Doctor into another jumping on point for new listeners so to hear them involve the Time Lords once again, bringing a number of references to that show’s events, feels a little too much.

With that being said this was an undeniably fun time with Alex Macqueen more than cementing his iteration in the Master’s catalogue of faces, which makes it all the better when he is the show’s focal point from time to time.

Like other series, Dark Eyes 3 is framed as a mystery story but what makes this more enjoyable than the previous series comes from how they’re told. We also have the advantage of knowing the key pieces and where they came from making it a highlight whenever roles are shuffled or reversed, even if it doesn’t happen as much as I would’ve liked.

This is definitely the most interesting of the bunch so far and it makes me excited for what’s next as long as the Doctor’s character is continued to be pushed as it did in Dark Eyes 1.

8/10
