Okay, now this thing is moving.

Firstly, any piece of media that has the Ninth Doctor in it is a partial win for me as the character is unlike any incarnation before or after and the same is true here. A true northern feel is placed back into the character which works wonders for the story their telling here.

Speaking of the story, I finally have an idea of what this arc is about even if it brings up a few questions. We’re in the Dark Times once again except this location has the Pre-Time Lords in battle with another alien species. Something that truly intrigues me is that this means the Doctor knew that the Time Lords weren’t always that. I’m not sure if this is something I’m fully onboard with because it feels retroactive. Bare in mind the Whoniverse is larger than I can consume in the time I started this review but I feel like this is a pretty game changing thing and something that probably should’ve been implemented into the TV cannon before their grand screw up last series. I don’t know if it would’ve helped but at the least it would’ve set up a bit more context.

Rose is back here and... yeah she’s still Rose. Never thought much of her besides from a POV for New Who to start with as future companions are far more memorable in my opinion but she’s written to how I remember her.

The creep factor on the aliens, called the Cucurbites, struggles a bit for me when they are revealed to be stereotypical vampires, at least the Vampires in Venice vampires were creepy fish people as well to change things up.

This is another issue one so the bigger picture hasn’t kicked off just yet however there were enough thrills to be had in this one story the keep me happy reading it.

8/10
